About Us

"We take pride in doing a good job every time. If we don't get the stain out the first time, we clean it a second or even third time.”

When it comes to washing, drying, dry cleaning, ironing or pressing, it’s hard to best the Washboard. Situated on Main Street, Rathkeale, but with collection depots in Patrickswell, Kildimo, Foynes, Ballingarry, Croom, Castlemahon, Shanagolden, Ardagh and Newcastle West, the Washboard provides a comprehensive service to the highest standards over a wide area of West Limerick.

The secret of success of the Washboard lies in the fact that it is a family-run business providing a top quality service at reasonable prices. Neily and Noreen Hogan bought the building of the former Cooley’s Dry Cleaners on October 1st 2003. An employee at Wyeth’s Nutritionals, he was thinking of taking redundancy, but he decided to stay in the job and his son Kenny instead ran the Washboard with his wife Noreen. Neily’s evenings and weekends were spent in the Washboard, upgrading machines in order to offer customers the best and most up to date service, and as the years passed the business grew and developed also. In 2010 Neily opted to take redundancy from Wyeth Nutritionals and soon he had joined Kenny and Noreen in the Washboard and together they adopted new procedures to make things more efficient and better for customers.

Also new machinery was added, so that today the Washboard is equipped with the best and most up to date machines, while Neily, Noreen and Kenny marry that with a friendly, family service to the customer. As Neily says, “We take pride in doing a good job. If we don’t get the stain out the first time, we try a second or even third time. We do our best to ensure the garment is stain-free, so we issue the least amount of stain tickets possible.”
